Is walk and talk therapy right for you?
If you’re struggling with not enough time outside, then walk and talk therapy could help you reconnect with nature while also working through the stressors that brought you to therapy outside of the confines of the traditional talk therapy.
I still have questions!
What happens if the weather is bad?
I try my best to keep an eye on the weather ahead of time and give you ample notice to make a “bad weather” call. We can reschedule our appointment for a later date or choose to meet online if the weather isn’t agreeable.
Where will we walk?
My go to is Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. There is a great walking path and we can meet across the street and walk in together. Or they have a $6 cash only per car charge if you’d rather explore other parts of the park. I like Quiet Waters because it is calm and not usually overly crowded.
How confidential is this?
What if I feel out of shape and not ready for a cardio workout?
Imagine you’re walking in the park with a friend, just talking about life in general. You pass other people doing the same thing and pay their conversation no mind. That’s exactly what we will look like! I do have a separate form you will complete prior to our first walk and talk session, but I’ve never had clients express concern once we get started. If we do happen to see someone you know, I’ll leave the choice up to you and follow your lead should you choose to make any introductions.
Don’t worry, that’s not what we’re here for! You set the pace for whatever makes you feel comfortable. I’ve walked with both teens and older adults. Our focus is on working through whatever brought you to therapy, not racing each other or the world. There’s no finish line and the goal is a healthier you.
